How Do You Preform A Remote Virus Scan?

My sister’s computer is seemingly full of viruses. So much so that we can’t even run her virus protection. I don’t know for sure if viruses are really the problem, but they’re an easy target.
Is there any way to preform a remote virus scan from one of our other computers?

    Some of the virus program websites have an online scanner. You could try that, or try download another virus program and run that.
    There are some other things that you can do, too. First, try rebooting into Safe mode and running the virus program from there – the virus might not be able to load itself in safe mode.
    Download and install Process Explorer – look at all the processes running on the machine, and stop those that look suspicious.
    You might also want to go to Sophos and download their anti-rootkit, and download and install HijackThis.
    I received a Best Answer the other day on a similar topic, and here was my response.
    1. Mal-ware Remover – I like Spybot Search and Destroy. Be sure and put it into advanced mode and take a look at the BHOs and start up programs. You might be surprised to find out what is starting automatically.
    2. Start-Up Monitor – a tiny little program that alerts you when programs are trying to install on your system, or want to load up on start up.
    3. StartUp Control Panel – run this little program from the control panel and enable/disable programs that run on start up.
    4. Spyware Blaster – inoculates your browser(s) against known spyware and malware
    5. Hostsman – a hosts manager makes it so your browser cannot even go to certain malicious web sites, also prevents a lot of ad tracking
    6. Firewall – Windows has a firewall, but it only monitors incoming traffic. It does not monitor outgoing, nor does it monitor programs opening other programs unexpectedly. I like Sunbelt’s firewall.
    7. Software Inspector – It is important to know which if any of the programs on your systems have vunerablities, and get them patched.
    If you are using Internet Explorer, change to a better browser. Opera has no vunerabilities, all have been patched. Next would be Firefox, although there are some unpatched issues.
    If you are using Outlook, I strongly recommend getting another email client. Outlook is one of the easiest ways to get an infection.

    Try to uninstall your antivirus. Some Antivirus and anti spyware programs have poor virus detection and removal capacity and even cause threats to your computer.For best protection, use both Avira Antivirus for Virus protection and NoAdware 5.0 for spyware, malware and adware protection. Always update your Anivirus and anti spyware regularly to maintain your protection.

    Internet Security Info:
    AVG – Detects viruses but not all
    Kaspersky – better than others but some problems on the performance issues
    Nod32 Antivirus – low quality anti virus
    Norton Antivirus (Symantec) – always creating crashes/not recommended antivirus
    Mc Affee Antivirus – the same poor detection on viruses like nod32
    Avast – good but with few performance issues

    You can remove the harddrive and plug it to another computer. Then start windows from your harddrive and remove those viruses. It its loaded, i’ll recommend a boot time scan.
