How Long Does A Typical Computer Hard Drive Last Before It Is A Dead Hard Drive?
May 12th, 2009 | by Frenday |In general, how long does a typical new hard drive last before it doesn’t work?
Another question: When the computer hard drive is dead, does this mean the monitor and the computer won’t turn on?

Hard Drive Disks can last up to 10 years, by that time though, it will need to be replaced, or usually is. My dad’s work computer’s HDD recently died and it was 6 years old, and the computer was overheating constantly due to lack of ventilation and heavy amounts of dust (it’s an auto body shop).

All drive manufacturers like to talk about MTBF – mean time between failures. They run their drive for a little while , measure the wear and tear, and calculate how much longer the drive should run based on wear and tear only.
Unfortunately, this gives an estimate at the high end of time. Lots of other factors can cause a hard drive to fail.
A quote from wikapedia
Hard drives typically fail within a short time if there is a defect present from manufacturing. If a hard drive proves reliable for a period of a few months after installation, the hard drive has a significantly greater chance of remaining reliable. Therefore, even if a hard drive is subjected to several years of heavy daily use, it may not show any notable signs of wear unless closely inspected. On the other hand, a hard drive can fail at any time in many different situations.

it depends on how you use the hard drive..if you store tons of stuff on it..it will crash..if not..it will last you a really long time..monitor has nothing to do with the hard drive..if the hard ive is dead..you just need a replacement..or a new tower..the monior will b e fine
