There is another alternative … you are normally not restricted to a single internal disk drive (drive letters are operating system dependent) … most PCs have connections for up to 4 IDE devices (2 devices on 2 channles, including optical drives) … the IDE specs allow for 4 channels (2 devices per channel) for a total of 8 devices.
The only problems ahe likely to be cooling and power … excess of the former and lack of the latter.

1. storing video/pics/songs doesn’t cause slow performance. it is caused if there is not much space on HDD. keep at least 500MB free
2. yes that devices are common termed as USB to IDE converter

you can either get a usb caddy, or an ide caddy which will fit into a spare 5.25″ slot.
alternatively, why don’t you install it internally. change the jumper setting on the back of the harddrive to Slave and connect it to the IDE cable (some IDE cables only have one connection so you may have to purchase a cable with 2 connections.)

Yes you can and it’s really easy to do.
All you need is an external hard drive case or caddy. You will get one off ebay for about £20 but check out the small computer shops in your area. Mine cost me £18 from a little shop who builds and repairs pc’s
I think a caddy with a fan is best but at work we have icy boxes which are on all day 7 days a week.
All you do is secure the hard drive to the chassis, plug the internal wire in to th hard drive and slide the chassi with hard drive into the casing.
Will take you 5 minutes.

Yes, you can. You need to find out if your old hard drive is IDE or SATA. Then you can buy an external enclosure. If your computer is fairly old it’s probably IDE, in which case you can get a USB 2.0 IDE external enclosure.

That device is called an HDD Caddy and it plugs into a USB port. Make sure you get the P-ATA type if you have an older hard drive as opposed to a more modern S-ATA type.

of course you can ur old hard drive as a additional storage. there are 2 way to do it first just buy a casing for ext hdd and after you format your old hdd you can use it second if you got a technical background just make it as secondary drive in your pc ( put all the data, pic or vid on it )
