How Can I Install A Hard Drive From Another Computer Without Losing The Information On It?
May 29th, 2009 | by Frenday |I recently got a new computer, and I want to use the hard drive from my old computer as a slave. How can I make my new computer recognize and use this drive without formating and losing all the data that’s contained in it?

if you put it in the newer system and set it as a slave via the jumpers on the rear, it will work just fine. Keep in mind, though, that the operating system on it will be non-functional since it is registered to the bios on the old machine. That being said…everything on it wil be accessable, though most of the programs will also not work since they are tied into the registry of the operating system for your old machine.

Plug it in.
if it has an OS on it you cannot boot from it, but from my computer on XP or computer on Vista you can access the files.
If you want to get rid of the OS on it get any files you want to keep on your current hard drive then format it and put it back
Hope this is ok XD

Hard drives don’t lose information when you unplug them or move them from computer to computer. If you already have a computer running with Windows, you should be able to just hook your old hard drive up in the new computer and it will work just fine.

not sure but you should take it and have it done by some one who knows how to do it cause you don’t want to mess up your new or your old computer…
