What Is The Top Freeware Antivirus And Firewall Software Around?
June 29th, 2009 | by Frenday |I have tried Kaspersky which is an all in one protection suite but I found it slowed down my computer and wasn’t worth the price I paid for.
I am now using the free version of AVG and am considering zone alarm as the firewall. Both are freely available.
Are the commercial AVG and zone alarm any good?
Are there any antivirus and firewall software, which are freely available and are effective in their protection?

Zone alarm is okay, Ive used it for a while now. Its annoying at first, but when you get it trained correctly, its fairly safe. I also use Avast antivirus. I found it more effective than McAfee.

I am using free AVG at the Office and free AVAST at home.
both AVG and AVAST are very good and updated when it comes to Virus Definition Updates.
Firewall. I know Mccafe has a free firewall but it slows your connection and your PC.
this is my advise.
do not use firewalls unless your in a network or your pc is a server and sharing files.
firewalls eats alot of memory and computer processing power that slows your pc.
hope it helps.

Personally I haven’t use Kaspersky, but I’ve been using AVG free version for the past 2 years and I’m very satisfied with its performance. In most cases that I had gone through some other “branded” anti-virus software failed to detect the viruses in my harddisk/thumbdrive but was successfully detected and healed/removed by AVG.
As for firewall, if you’re using WinXP, turning on the XP firewall would be enough.

ahh yess… i have been waiting for a question like this and i have been studying different anti virus programs and i will give u the list of the best anti-everything programs that are safe and free,
AVAST anti-virus = free and very good anti virus (download it from download.com)
Spyware-Doctor = best anti spyware service, but can slow down ur computer if u have less than 1 gb of ram and if you have a crappy processor (download this from pack.google.com and then only check spyware doctor then download that)
Firewall = (personally i dont like using extra firewalls and i stick to windows firewall because i have my internet protected already with a WEP code plus i bought my antivirus that has a built-in firewall, just to let u know sometimes firewalls that you download can screw up your internet and it blocks your internet so u can’t go online, so u have to uninstall it,)
if u really want a firewall download it from download.com, and type in the search bar “Comodo” and download comodo firewall pro that’s rated 4 stars… just stick with ur windows firewall cuz u won’t need more than that…

I have AVG. It doesn’t slow down the computer, is free and updates by itself. I’m happy with AVG.
