How Do I Get Started In The Stock Market?
July 3rd, 2009 | by Frenday |Hey everyone,
I’m a college freshman with a savings account that has a couple grand and I wanted to know how to get started in the stock market.
Trading is done online, is it not?
Where do I go/what do I do?
I’m something of a math nerd/major so numbers games are my thing, but I don’t know squat about the stock market. Except, obviously, everything is cheap now, and since I won’t need to economically support myself for 8 more years (parents funding me till grad school) now is a good time to buy it up…
How do I get started?

I will answer you if you tell me this first. Why does this exact same question get posted here six times a day, and why doesn’t anyone bother to do a search first before posting the same question over and over again? If you look back at history, you will find a wealth of good and bad answers.

Okay you are a good sport, so am I.
If you just want to make some money and learn about investing, smart move is to put money into a no-load mutual fund. I like Vanguard. Put half in right away, then $100 a month until you run out. Read about diversification and dollar cost averaging.
If you really want to learn about STOCK MARKET in detail, allocate about $200 of the $2k to some books, and spend a couple of months learning about mechanics of stock market, as well as how to pick good investments. Beat The Street and The Warren Buffet Way are good places to start, but you will need a few more.
Stocks take a lot of time, a mutual fund is a much MUCH smarter way to go for you right now, and there is still a lot to learn.

Hi,
You may read reviews for stock trading mentors and gurus at Online Stock Trading Reviews http://www.OnlineStockTradingReviews.com
Here you will find people’s comments and reviews on their services and products. If you haven’t done any research on a particular company you can just browse thru this site for stock trading education vendors and see which ones will fit the ticket for you by going to the educational courses nav bar link and going to the particular site that you’re interested in. Online Trading Academy is one of the biggest vendors for the stock trading education. Just start out with one of their CDs first to get an idea of their education. Hope this helps out.

Investing in specific stocks would be like gambling for you because you wouldn’t be able to diversify accurately without large sums of money. Look into Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) in industries you think will do well going forward and buy into those for the long term.

If I were you, I’d educate myself on stocks and then start with mutual funds.
