What Is The Best Free Antivirus Program That I Can Download For My Laptop?

July 15th, 2009 | by Frenday |

My trial Norton 360 has run out and I can’t afford to buy an antivirus program so was wondering what the best one out there for free download is?

    There Is Windows Defender.http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security…
    And also AVG.http://free.grisoft.com/
I Have both on my laptop and they are both good.
Also make sure your firewall is on! As mine wasn’t automatically on when i brought my laptop!
Firewall is Start, Control Panel, Security Center.

avast or avg both are better than norton but be aware that to truely remove norton you may hae to do a complete reload of windoze{mispelled on purpose} while your at it you can install mozillz firefox and forever say goodbye to popups and ads.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

I’ve been using AVG from grisoft.com for several years. It is excellent. Very simple, extraordinarily reliable.
As mentioned by another answer it may be difficult to unload Norton. (Same for McAfee). If you do have a problem their help line and on line forums should help.
Do not use McAfee or Norton. They can be worse than loading AOL on your computer.
    Good luck.

Try some of these. This is a list I have compiled of what I feel are the best free -anti-virus downloads. Notice they all say home edition but are all free and fully usable versions. When I use them together on my system it does an excellent job in keeping it clean.
    Avast! Home Editionhttp://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_…
    AVG Free Editionhttp://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_an…
    EAV Antivirus Suite Free Editionhttp://www.brothersoft.com/eav-antivirus…

Just get the Norton anti virus/spyware. $40/year is worth it in the long run. The free ones are weak.

    AVG Freehttp://free.grisoft.com/
It’ll run quietly in the background, won’t bug you like a lot of expensive programs, and will do its job if you try and open something infected. Perfect.
Oh, and Windows Defender isn’t an Anti-Virus.
