Best Antivirus Software For A Small Computer?
August 5th, 2009 | by Frenday |I have an old Thinkpad, 500 MHZ, 192 RAM, and a 6 gig drive. Looking for a free antivirus program that won’t hog resources too much. I usually use AVG free, but was wondering if someone else has a better suggestion?
FYI, it’s running XP.

Amazing is that old Thinkpad runs XP at all!
The free version of Avira should run a lot lighter than AVG on that machine.
Great detection rates but does have a few false-positive detections.

AVG. Is a free anti virus.
Think of Quickheal or kaspersky before going for symantec.
You know what? Virus never thinks whether your system is small or what
it just treats all in a similar manner.

avg should be fine, but if you want the best protection possible your looking at kaspersky internet security 2009. It’s about $70 so not too bad for a year.

No matter what antivirus you use, make sure to back it up with a free spyware detector or two. I would suggest AdAware or MalwareBytes (both free!).
