So My Subscription To Norton Antivirus Is Running Out Soon. Should I Renew It Or Get A Different Programme?

August 23rd, 2009 | by Frenday |

So yeah, Norton Antivirus is kind of expensive, especially when you have to keep replacing it. I think we have the 2005 version. If you do recommend me renewing the subscription, should I get the 2009 version instead?
If there are any free antivirus programmes/software that you would recommend rather than renewing Norton Antivirus, pleaseeee let me know what you’d recommend, why you’d recommend it, and how I can get it.
Thanks!!

The AVG is a good antivirus however if you want to remove a virus that gets through then you might have to pay for a subscription. It might be easier to renew Norton as it will be very difficult to completely remove it from your PC or laptop. 1 issue is…”When uninstalling most versions of AVG in Windows XP/Vista and attempting to install other antivirus programs such as Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Norton AntiVirus; they will not install showing an incompatible software installed error even if AVG has been uninstalled using the control panel. This happens because AVG has made registry entries while installing and this has not been removed even after uninstall.”

    Hello,
Try going to http://www.download.com and search for anti-virus software progams. You can get a 30 day free trial on some of them and then you can choose whether to buy the software or not.
It is like trying before you buy!!
I use McAfee Anti-virus, I think it is alot better than Norton. But hey every ones opinion is different. I would also recommend that if you did want to stick with Norton to get the 2009 version. It will probably run faster and protect your computer better because it is up-to-date!
    Good luck.

If you can afford it I would recommend getting the 2009 version as it is a lot better than old versions. If you want a free one I would recommend getting Avira Antivir antivirus and Online Armor Firewall and I recommend Malwarebytes or Superantispyware antispyware. I would also download Wot browser which protects you from going onto any bad sites.
    Hope I have helped.

Don’t renew! I had Norton and it made my computer run very slow. It’s so intense, that’s why. I just cleared it away and now use avg free. Yes it’s free! Just google it. It’s good enough for a home computer. I’ve been using it for about 3 years now, no problems. Norton trade on scaring you, you don’t need to pay for security.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, I have recently added superantispyware and Malwarebytes. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.5 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

My recommendation would be for Avast. There are others out there like Comodo, AVG, Avira

I would go for AVG, its free and as someone else has said norton really does slow down your pc. Try Grisoft website or cnet to download it or just type avgfree into search engine.

You might have to reinstall your operating system to really get rid of Norton.

AVG programmes are as good as Norton, if not better and they’re all free. Just visit their website (AVG.com, I suppose). I’ve got it for my PC and I’ve never had any problems, at all.
