How Do I Go About Raising Money For A Family Who Is Currently Having A Hard Time Financially?

September 14th, 2009 | by Frenday |

I can donate some money to this family, but I was wondering how I go about raising more money to give them during this difficult time. Are there any laws? Do I need to contact someone for a permit? How do I find others who want to donate too? Any imput would help me know where to go from here. Thanks!

If you go to church, you could ask you pastor, if you could set up some kind of box where people could donate items. You could also, let your neighbors know your trying to raise money for someone and have a big garage sale.
I don’t know what else to say other than, government assistance, for them, and it help out allot to get people back on there feet.
    I hope this helps,

No, I don’t think there is any law prohibiting donations, but if you want to –
    a) get a tax exemption
    b) get them all round assistance
u may want to put them thro’ to a reknowned NGO like United Way as well as donate money to them designating it for a specific cause.

I’m not sure of the laws and stuff, but I’ve found that if you let people you know that you are collecting money, especially at someplace like a school, office, church, or other group, they’re happy to help. During my senior year, we just went to all the students and let them know that there were people in our community that wouldn’t be able to have Christmas without a little help, and we collected several hundred dollars. People are always willing to help!

Local golf tournaments are a great way to raise money for a good cause. Speak with a local course manager/owner and they will either take a portion of the profits or donate it all to the family. If the course won’t budge on the price, “charge” more for the tourny and forward the profits to the family. Offering cheap prizes or a raffel will get players in at a higher price, coupled with the “good cause”. Good luck!
