September 20th, 2009 | by Frenday |

I already have anti virus software installed and according to that my PC is clean. But this AntiVirus 2009 pop-up keeps appearing every 10 minutes or so, what is this and how do I stop it? It says my PC is infected and it’s in my best interests to install it, but I don’t want to because I don’t trust it.

You were right not to trust it ….as its a rogue program.
If Antivirus 2009 has been installed on your system without your permission or you are seeing popup advertising or recommending that you use Antivirus 2009 your system is infected with the zlob trojan.
For FREE removal scroll to this…..ignoring any ads that
    are above this point.

    Not good.
You have a virus that is designed to sell you software to remove it.
Go to a website called “majorgeeks.com where you will almost certainly find advice to remove it. This will involve booting in “safe” mode and removing the brute manually.
Norton Anti Virus and McCaffee will not help, in fact, they will want to charge you for the advice that majorgeeks will give you for free.
You do need to get rid of it though, because after several days it will start to download other viruses that will damage your computer if your current antivirus doesn’t catch them first.
If Spybot works then so much the better, but it didn’t work for me. If all else fails, try majorgeeks anyway.

Part of it is already on your machine, it’s rogueware that will find errors even on a brand new machine which is known to be clean, eg:http://www.mywot.com/en/online-threats/f…
Simple fix with free programs that have worked hundreds of times:
    RogueRemover:http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware…
Download, install, update, scan and follow on screen prompts.
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant…
Download, install, update and select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.
    SmitFraud Removal
Firstly, download the removal tool from here:http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix…
    How to use:http://cotojo.wordpress.com/2007/08/24
    Spybot S&D:http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl…
Download, install, update and Immunize, turn off Tea Timer then click ‘Check for problems’ then when complete select all and then ‘Fix Checked’
    VundoFix:http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/gl…
Disconnect your computer from the internet
    Run vundo
    Restart your computer
Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.
If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.
If your desktop has changed or icons are missing also use:
    Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wallpaper_Hija…
Note: You should hit all “Repair” buttons even though it may not say “Found!” This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.
Edit: @ nettie – Smitfraud Fix is NOT a trojan and has been widely used by thousands of users, what it contains is the repair code that antivirus programs read as a trojan, which it certainly is not. If it were, then it would not be so popular, nor cited on all of the major download sites.

    Correct. Don’t trust it.
It could well be that you have mistakenly installed a false ant-virus program which is, itself, responsible for these pop-ups.http://www.precisesecurity.com/blogs/200…

whatever you do DO NOT click on it…. it IS the malware.
use the task manager to close it – dont even click on the x on the corner. If you have, search for removal instructions or get an expert to help you remove it
    here’s a link with instructions for youhttp://www.removeonline.com/remove-antiv…

It is a nasty piece of software that makes you pay to remove itself, even then it leaves infected files.
To clean it I use spybot, sometimes it takes more than one pass, but it never fails in the end.

You are right not to want to install it as it is bogus programme that you will have the devils own to get rid of once installed. Also it invades your computer. So ignore it don’t even click on it. It will go away eventually but only if you do not install.
Do as suggested and use spybot to clean up.
