First thing would be to re-install and then uninstall it.
Before doing the uninstall, be sure it is shut down by right-clicking the Avast icon in your tray and click "Stop On-Access Protection".
If that doesn't work, run the Avast Uninstall Utility:http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall…

2-Start Windows in Safe Mode

4-If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)

Go to my computer. Hit remove when it brings up all your programs click on it and hit the remove. Just taking of the icon and the program under programs won't work you have to go to my computer. I just got avasta and I don't have any problems with it yet.

I don't know why you're having a problem with Avast but if you're gonna run a free Anti-Virus you won't find a better one. You could try reinstalling it to cure the problem.
If you insist there is and uninstaller here http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall…
