* Security is a three tier affair, one firewall, one anti-virus and as much adware/spyware removal software as you feel needed?
* Avast antivirus - it has a boot time scanner. This important feature allows a user to instigate scanning before a virus is activated, in the case that a virus is suspected to be active on your computer already.
* SuperAntiSpyware - Finds viruses and spyware that are very very hard to find with no conflict to other antivirus software.
* Spyware Blaster - Will help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the 'good side' of the web.
* Comodo Firewall Pro - For XP and Vista keeps hackers out of your system and all types of malware.
* Do a search for all of these.

YES! AVG is very good at what it does I use it on all my windows computers and they are all running great. In my experience you will only get a virus, if your looking for one and in the one case when I was, the second I downloaded it, AVG gave me a warning and removed it. I HIGHLY recommend switching, not to mention that it will save your computer's resources as well.

If you think Mcafee is a resource hog, wasting your money, or find it unsatisfying then you should switch. AVG has been very popular with many users. However, you can find the one that fits you best or works well with the way you work or play. For me I would choose Trend Micro or AVG, two very good companies in my opinion. And you don't really need another firewall if you have Windows Firewall or a modem.

I use AVG free and Avast i recommend you try them out i have been using freeware AV for over a year and i haven't had any further problems with viruses. however most freeware is just stand alone and you will need to find software for dedicated purposes such as Anti Virus and Firewall. The software you have to pay for is often a package of firewall, anti virus, anti spyware and anti adware.

For now, keep McAfee until it expires. Then you should either pay for another year, or switch to a free anti-virus and use another firewall. Windows Firewall has a lot of vulnerabilities; but if you use Windows Firewall with a free anti-virus AND you have a router with a built in firewall, then you're fine.

most of the free antivirus do nt give you the complete protection. you either buy a good antivirus product like kaspersky antivirus or download antivirus or antispyware from http://www.geeksjunction.com
