Just some video codecs. Download and install the K-lite Codec Pack from http://www.free-codecs.com and it should work after that.

If you can not play your dvd on your computer i think you can convert you dvd to popular video so your computer can play it easily.

I also want to share you the instructions I usually followed.
Step 0: Install and run it.
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to load your DVD.
Step 2: Select the output video format you want from the “Profile” drop-down list.
Step 3: Select the output destination.
Step 4: Click the “Convert” button to start your conversion.
This tool has fast conversion speed and good sound/image quality.
Some other functions such as “Snapshot”, “Crop”, “Effect”, “Trim”, “Merge” are also availabel but I seldomly use them.
